With an LLC you can file taxes just as if you were a sole proprietor and you do not have to have annual meetings. If you intend to stay a small business more than likely LLC is the easiest way to go. It costs $100 to file and you can get the paper work you need from the IRS website for free. . You can also find a lot of info about it there as well.

The biggest advantage of an LLC over an “S” Corporation is that there are less administrative hassles. This depends on the state where you will operate but in general you don’t have to have board minutes, board resolutions, meeting minutes, etc. You do however have very similar formation administration including a document you need when forming the company called, “Articles of Organization” in an LLC and “Articles of Incorporation” for a “S” Corporation.
To me the big disadvantage of an LLC versus an “S” Corporation has to do with the potential problems you may have obtaining investment, merging with other companies, or getting acquired.
So, if you will remain a small business you are probably best off with an LLC. Be sure though to follow the rules so that you can benefit from the limited liability otherwise you are wasting your money.
Have you heard of Ameriplan? I own my own business with them and receive free benefits for me and my family, free training, 401k, and a support system of people who started out just like me. They are a company that has been around for fifteen years providing discount healthcare programs and the opportunity to work from home successfully.
With Ameriplan, you make your own hours, are your own boss and can work your business from anywhere, even while running errands. You get tax write-offs for expenses for your business (your gas can be included in this!) and you get the satisfaction of doing work that is helpful to over two million members in America and growing.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in or you want to know more, you can contact me directly and I will answer any questions you have or you can visit their site.
It somewhat depends on the state that you are in, but in general an llc beats a corporation (s or c) on cost and ease of setup. An llc is taxed as a pass through entity and limits your liability as a small business owner.
Comments on Has anyone had the experience of operating a home based business as a llc or inc. which is NOT mlm related? »
depends on ur state laws
deoends on ur business model
depends on business liablity.
most cases llc and inc only make money for lawyers.
most business models can buy enough liablity to cover problems.
asking a lawyer if you need a llc / inc =s asking a dog if it is hungery.
